Getting started

A FIRST CONVERSATION

I offer a free online consultation of up to 30 minutes so we can meet, ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.

The most important aspect of the consultation is getting a sense of whether we feel comfortable working together.

There is no expectation to begin therapy afterwards. This first conversation is an opportunity for us to meet and for you to explore whether my approach feels right for you.

In a consultation I can also give you a sense of how the initial session could be structured and some of the therapeutic tools we might use.

If something in what you’ve read resonates with you, please get in touch and feel free to share something about your interest in doing therapy with me.

WHERE WE CAN MEET

In the studio: I do therapy sessions in the cosy studio of an art therapist colleague. The studio is in the southside of Glasgow, near Cathcart station.

Outdoors: I love doing sessions outdoors, in quiet parts of Queen’s Park, surrounded by plants and trees and throughout the changing seasons of the year.

Online: this is a good option if you are not based in Glasgow, as all the modalities I offer can be used online.

FEES

As most people, I need an income to support myself, and I follow the BAAT British Association of Art Therapy guidelines regarding my fees.

I use a sliding scale with three different hourly rates, both for individual therapy and supervision:

£50 reduced rate

£60 standard rate

£70 supporter rate

I offer a reduced rate if you cannot afford a standard rate, whilst the supporter rate helps me to offer reduced rates.

The rates for supervision might increase if the fees are covered by an organisation.

I use a similar sliding scale when working with couples, polycules and families. The rates are £60 / £70 / £80.

You can pay cash at the end of the session if in person or via bank transfer before the session.

DURATION AND BREAKS

Weekly or fortnightly sessions of one hour, with flexibility to review this together.

I will inform you about breaks related to my training and travelling as much in advance as possible.

I don’t ask you to commit to a series of sessions, but I do invite you to allow yourself to experience a few sessions for us to settle into the therapeutic relationship.

IN CASE OF A CRISIS

I am not specialised in crisis intervention or in providing specialist support to people experiencing suicidal thoughts or who are at immediate risk of harming themselves.

If you experience a mental health crisis, I recommend accessing appropriate emergency or crisis services rather than relying on an individual therapist in private practice. In the UK, these include the NHS, Samaritans, Breathing Space, Shout, Papyrus and Childline.

Generally, I would not advise relying on an individual therapist in private practice for support if you are experiencing a crisis or suicidal thoughts. I would recommend seeking support from an appropriate team or organisation that is equipped to respond to situations of this kind.
